The Eye and Off to Richmond

The Eye of London is one of those touristy sites that are completely necessary. Simply for the Instagram photos (just kidding), but if you want to see the entire city the Eye of London is for you.

The ironic part is that we went on Sunday which also happened to be Valentine's day. So Rachel and I were thinking that we were guaranteed to be mistaken for a couple and that we would see a proposal. The latter never happened, but the first certainly did.

After the Eye of London we of course went to another market called Covent Gardens.

At this market there was a lot of street art and I was able to pick up a piece of original work for only 8 pounds. Covent Garden Market is a more established market since all of the vendors are covered. It also near a lot of cafés and shops in the surrounding neighborhoods so you spend a lot of time in this area just wandering around.

I had decided to stay in London till Monday night, because I just wanted to have an extra day. With Rachel at her internship, and my friends from BU back in Dublin, I was on my own and I was excited at the opportunity to do a solo day trip. I decided to go to Richmond for the day which is just a short tube ride out of the city.

Everyone I know who travels a lot always says that you should do a solo trip because it is a real learning and growing experience. Of course this was not a solo weeklong trip, it was a solo day trip and I figured it was a good start.

Richmond is a quiet little town with streets and shops to wander around. The day trip was the perfect ending to a great weekend. When I came back from my trip everyone would ask how was London and what did you think of the city.

To be honest, I came back befuddled and someone even jokingly said I had Paris Syndrome--which I don't. London is beautiful with amazing architecture, museums, and really anything else you could want. I would compare it to New York City, whereas Dublin is a little bit like Boston--my roommate John would disagree (there is your shout out). I think that by the time I got to London, Dublin felt like home. With that in mind, my perception of London was definitely different than it would have been if I had gone to London first.

Until tomorrow's adventure,
Hannah
